1. President Muhammadu Buhari has accused the administration of former President, Goodluck Jonathan of deliberately frustrating the Nigerian soldiers into mutiny and at the same time arresting and prosecuting the soldiers. He said the last administration sent the soldiers after terrorists with little or no equipment to execute the war. He was speaking in an interview with the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation.

3. Effort by Boko Haram insurgents to attack Maiduguri, the Borno State capital was Sunday evening repelled by the Nigerian Army. Reports claimed that the terrorists were trying to make an inroad through Ajidalari, along Jiddari Polo, but were intercepted by troops and members of the vigilante group popularly called civilian JTF, resulting to heavy exchange of fire powers from both sides.

Mother of the twin brothers(Taiwo and Kehinde) who were killed by a trigger-happy policeman in Ketu axis of Lagos state on Boxing Day has lamented over the death of her two sons, stating that her world crumbled when the news of their death was disclosed to her. She said the children were her hope after their father died four months ago. Beatrice Oyesolu, 75, said life was meaningless without her children.

Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima has described the controversial $2.1bn meant for the procurement of arms for the Armed Forces fighting Boko Haram insurgents in the north east but allegedly diverted into private pockets as blood money and crime against humanity. He said this while playing host to Ladan Salihu, the Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, in Maiduguri.

The Federal Government on Sunday suspended the NAIA Manager as well as the Terminal Manager of Abuja Airport pending completion of investigations into the 24 December incident where scores of angry passengers of a Turkish Airlines flight invaded the NAIA’s tarmac and stopped the carrier’s aircraft from taking off.
7. Fire, Sunday, engulfed the doctor’s quarters of the Rivers State Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital, BMSH in Port Harcourt. It was gathered that the fire started from the last floor of the two-storey building located around Forces Avenue, Old GRA, Port Harcourt. Report says quick intervention of the combined effort of the State fire service stopped the fire at a point.
8. Imilike-Agu community in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State was, weekend, engulfed in mourning after a 60-year-old Paulinus Ugwuoke, was killed by his son, Anselem Ugwuoke. Report says Ugwuoke was hit with an object after an altercation with his son, resulting to his death.
9. The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has admitted that it is not easy to rebuild the party. It also said that since the party lost out early this year, it had been meeting oppositions even within the party, making the rebuilding process very difficult. The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, stated this in an interview with some journalists in Abuja.

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki on Sunday described the Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu as a perfect gentleman and a good example for politicians, promising to continue to work with him.
